Eben asks, "Has this creature been around for the centuries the stories imply it has?"

Bishop says, "Yes. I don't even know how long it's existed for. It seems to be some kind of avatar of nature or similar sort of entity."

Wanda says, "Certainly not good-natured"

Eben asks, "Hunh. I don't suppose it has anything to do with [name of books that gave Jacob and Hydrolix their powers]?"

[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "Quaesiditores Perditarium"

[CCrusaders] Eben says, "Nice! Yes, those."

[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "I think I spelt that wrong though"

Bishop says, "Hmm, no, I don't think so. I've heard of the Quaesitores, and the creatures they revered were long-extinct species. The Krampus is, as far as I know, the only one of its kind."

Zircon says, "No wonder he's so grumpy"

Eben asks, "Oh, I don't think I knew that about the Quaesitores. Like, an intelligent race that lived on Earth before Humans?"

Bishop says, "Before, and possibly even at the same time as humans, depending on which stories you believe. Some of the Quasitores even thought that they still existed but had simply gone into hiding, but I doubt that myself."

[Crows-Nest] Wanda says, "As seen on the Early Extraterrestrials channel"

[Crows-Nest] Wanda says, "CP watches it"

Eben says, "Well, then. Hunh."

[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "I don't think I have anything else; do we want to ask him any other favors? Help getting the kids back to Vegas, but mostly do that off-screen?"

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Yeah, he easily has the resources to get the kids home."

[Crows-Nest] Jacob says, "Back in the sack, kids! We're going home."

Bishop says, "Good luck finding those last two kids. I have a flight this afternoon to get the other children back home, and then I need to fly back hom myself, but is there anything I can do to help before then?"

[CCrusaders] Eben says, "And there's no rush on investigating the sack (unless you say it starts to dissolve away or something) so I'm good going on to the next thing myself."

[Crows-Nest] Wanda asks, "Out of curiosity, what was Bishop's reaction to Wanda?"

Eben says, "I don't think so."

Eben stands, and shakes Mr. Bishop's hand. "It's been a pleasure working with you; if you ever need our help again, don't hesitate to call."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "He took it pretty well in stride. But then, someone who's fought a Krampus multiple times might be used to scary things by now."

Bishop says, "Thank you! Perhaps I might take you up on that next year."

Eben exclaims, "We'll be here!"

Zircon exclaims, "Hope they don't lose your luggage!"

Wanda exclaims, "Happy holidays!"

[CCrusaders] Jacob asks, "So we've got two kids left to recover. When I was connecting the dots and figure out they "don't fit" the Krampus MO, was there anything that linked them together, or could they be totally separate things?"

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Also the shadow portal is a thing. (In case anyone else like me is like "what next?")"

[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "Interview the parents of the girl; do more research about electicity kid?"

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Aside from both living around the same part of town, nothing seems to stick out. One of them is Patrick Peterson, whose mother was electrified in that recent freak lightning storm. The other is Melissa Humbert, a teenager who went missing just a few days ago."

[CCrusaders] Zircon says, "I would not be adverse to the GM dropping a new adventure on us, or if we're still in this one, sure let's carry on"

[CCrusaders] Zircon says, "I'm down for some freaky storm"

[CCrusaders] Wanda exclaims, "Crusaders... investigate!"

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Hehe"

[CCrusaders] GM asks, "OK! Where are you heading for the next scene?"

Zircon pounds a bit more insistently.

GM says, "A few moments later, the door is opened by a man who's the spitting image of Herve Villechaize, but with a goatee and mustache."

Zircon says, "Hey hey, Juan! You're looking good. It's me, your old buddy Johnny Lux."

Big says, "Johnny! Come on in. Uh. Is that thing with you?"

Big says, "I already told you, I'm a people doctor, not a vet."

GM says (to Wanda), "He's mostly thinking about the job and how best to patch you two up, but with undercurrents of suspicion about how long Zircon will take to pay him this time."

[Crows-Nest] Wanda asks, "Sadly I don't have Resources as a skill, does Jacob?"

GM says, "Some antiseptic, stitches and bandages later, and you're feeling a bit better."

[Crows-Nest] Zircon says, "I have Resources +3! So yeah I can pay him off. This time."

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Nope. Also wrong channel :)"

[CCrusaders] GM asks (of Zircon), "Which level of consequence was that?"

[CCrusaders] GM says, "This was a different kid. The one from the pond was one of the Krampus victims."

Wanda says, "Keep those tricks up your sleeve for now"

GM says, "The Humbert house is large, with a well-manicured lawn and an expensive car parked in the driveway. A woman answers the door."

[Crows-Nest] Zircon says, "dang 'A Few Tricks Up My Sleeve' would be a great Aspect"

Eben asks, "Hello! My name is Eben Morris; I'm working with the police, trying to help track down your daughter. May we come in and ask a few questions?"

Mrs. Humbert says (to telephone), "...and I told you *not* to use the lemon-scented wood polish anymore. You *know* that it gives poor little Fluffy the sniffles."

Zircon smiles winningly.

GM says, "The woman glances over the group of you, with a look of disgust when she sees Wanda."

"Mrs. Humbert" says, "*What* is *that*?"

[CCrusaders] GM says, "(Ignore that first set of quotation marks.)"

[CCrusaders] Zircon says, "IF THAT IS YOUR REAL NAME"

Eben says, "'Who'! That's Wanda, my adopted granddaughter. We're part of the Crownsford Crusaders."

Eben asks, "And this is Zircon, and this is Jacob. You do want our help in finding your daughter, no? May we come in?"

Mrs. Humbert says, "She's not going to eat anybody, is she? Or build a web? Or lay eggs inside the house?"

Eben says, "Ma'am, that's rather speciesist. And no."

Wanda says (to Mrs), "Humbert You can ask me questions directly, I talk"

Mrs. Humbert says, "Alright then, I suppose. Come in. But it'll have to be quick. I have a meeting I need to get to."

Wanda skitters in after Eben.

Zircon scootches on in.

GM says, "She shows you to a sitting room, for sitting in."

[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "What information do we have so far from the police report?"

Eben . o O ( I'm giving more credence to the 'ran away from home' theory. )

Eben . o O ( But we'll see. )

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Name, age, sex, photo, address, parents' names, date of disappearance. And that she left one evening to visit a friend and didn't come back."

Zircon idly looks around, reflexively casing the joint.

[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "And (sorry) remind me of the name and age?"

GM says (to Zircon), "Yeah, some of the stuff decorating this place could buy quite a few appendectomies if need be."

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Melissa Humbert, 16."

Eben asks, "So, tell me about the day that Melissa disappeared. What were you and your husband doing, and what was she doing before leaving to visit her friend?"

Wanda focuses on catching every one of Mrs Humbert's surface thoughts.

Zircon thinks towards Wanda TELL EBEN TO ASK IF THEY GOT A RANSOM NOTE; THEY CAN TELL US WE'RE COOL NOT LIKE THE COPS

Mrs. Humbert says, "My husband was -- and still is -- in Atlanta on a business trip. Melissa was in her room most of the day on that computer, like usual. Teenagers! You hardly ever see them."

Eben asks, "Your husband didn't come back when his daughter disappeared?"

Eben . o O ( Whoops, I was going to try to not be judgy. )

Mrs. Humbert says, "I was busy finishing some paperwork from the office. The housekeeper was making dinner. And Melissa came down and said she was going to spend the night at Lydia's."

[CCrusaders] Zircon asks, "how's that family-pet angle working out?"

Eben asks, "What office do you work for?"

Mrs. Humbert says (to Eben), "I said he was in Atlanta! He has important reponsibilities, you know. He's a *regional director*. He can't just leave everything at the drop of a hat."

Eben struggles to keep a straight face, and manages to merely quirk an eyebrow.

Mrs. Humbert says, "Bienvenue Marketing and Advertising. If you ever need to improve your image, give us a call."

[Crows-Nest] Wanda says, "Eben! Zircon! Think quieter, I can't hear her thoughts"

Eben asks, "And does your husband work for the same company, or somewhere else?"

GM says (to Wanda), "Most of her thoughts right now are about how busy she is, and how she wishes the group of you would just get to the point and get out of her hair."

Wanda says (to GM), "Got it :)"

Mrs. Humbert says, "He's a regional director at Miffkin Import and Export. But how is any of thise related to what happened to Melissa?"

Eben asks, "Any names you can give me?"

Zircon asks, "Do you have a last name or a phone number for 'Lydia', Mrs.... Humbert?"

GM says, "She rattles off a dozen, with a smug smile, before pausing for breath."

Eben takes notes.

Mrs. Humbert says, "Those are just the ones who still work there. Did you also want to know about the people I've gotten fired?"

[CCrusaders] Jacob asks, "Is Fluffy there in the room, or should I ask to use the bathroom and hunt down whatever animal its supposed to be?"

Eben says, "...yes, that would be great."

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Fluffy is not in the room."

GM says, "She recites another two dozen names."

Eben nods. "Do Lydia and Melissa hang out often? Does Lydia ever come over here?

Jacob mumbles "thank you" almost as an afterthought, and he's gone.

[CCrusaders] GM asks, "Are you going to search through the house for Fluffy?"

Jacob, once out of eyesight, looks around for signs of this "Fluffy" (yes, timing)

[Crows-Nest] Eben says, "Fluffy is going to be as arrogant as her owner; I can tell ;-)"

Jacob asks, "Do you know anything about where she could have gone? Any reason to think she might have... run away?"

[CCrusaders] Eben says, "So: anything more about Lydia; if we can talk to the housekeeper or any other servants; if we can see her room."

GM says, "Lydia is one of Melissa's friends from school. They sometimes hang out together. The housekeeper is making dinner, but the kitchen is over there, and you're free to ask her questions as long as you don't interfere with her work."

GM says, "And Melissa's room is upstairs. You can see it if you need to."

Wanda is already making her way up.

Zircon makes for the kitchen.

[CCrusaders] Eben asks, "If you guys explore the room, I'll chat with the housekeeper?"

[CCrusaders] Zircon says, "always split the party, that's the Crusaders way"

[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "(downtown, walking fast, faces pass and I'm homebound)"

GM asks, "Which do you want to start with?"

[CCrusaders] Zircon says, "maybe go back to Jacob"

[CCrusaders] GM exclaims, "OK!"

[CCrusaders] Eben says, "I feel like the room is where we'll actually find good information, so sure, start with that."

[CCrusaders] Eben says, "You can text me if you need technical help breaking into her computer or something."

GM says (to Jacob), "It's a good thing that you can see so well, since turning on the light switch hardly does anything."

Jacob steps in, closes the door behind himself, and looks around.

GM says, "The walls are painted black. The sheets and blankets are black. The crumpled clothing lying on the floor is black."

[CCrusaders] GM says, "Those of you who are going upstairs to see the room can join in when you feel it's appropriate."

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "So she has good taste, I see"

[Crows-Nest] Zircon says, "yes but what does it smell like"

GM says, "There are also black candles, half-melted, around the room. And even most of the books on the bookshelves are bound in black."

Wanda treads carefully over the walls and ceilings. "Maybe she was involved with the shadow cultists?"

Jacob says, "Maybe, hm."

Jacob sniffs.

GM says, "As Fluffy alluded to, there's a faint but distinct aroma of incense coming from some of the candles."

Jacob looks at the books.

Jacob probably jumped nearly out of his skin when Wanda came in and said something. Since he doesn't know we have permission now to be here.

GM says (to Jacob), "They appear to be mass-market hokum on the occult."

Jacob peers at the book, but would probably show it quickly to Wanda and pocket it to peruse later.

Wanda's eight eyes widen, curious.

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "But want to see enough if it's got a title or is handwritten or what"

Wanda asks, "Hey, can I take a look now while you keep searching?"

Jacob says, "oh, sure."

Jacob hands it over

Wanda says, "I'm in college, I can read, haha"

Jacob smirks.

GM says, "It's handwritten and looks very old. There's no title."

GM asks (of Wanda), "Are you flipping through it?"

Wanda holds it between her mandibules while flipping throuhg it with one of her forelegs.

Jacob says, "If you need help, uh, not with the reading per se, uh. You know, let me know."

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "That's an awkward thing to say, but I have Lore +5"

Wanda exclaims, "No worries!"

GM says, "The handwriting is difficult to make out, but looking through the pages you spot a familiar image: the symbols of the Quaesitori Perditarum."

GM exclaims, "Back to the kitchen!"

[CCrusaders] Eben exclaims, "Oho!"

GM says, "You find an eldery lady who is busy cooking. She greets you."

Eben asks (of housekeeper), "Hi! I'm Eben. I know you're busy, but I'm trying to find out what happened to Melissa. Can I help chop things while we talk?"

Housekeeper says, "If you wash your hands first."

Eben exclaims, "Of course!"

GM says, "She pushes a plate of carrots toward you."

Eben washes his hands and chops some carrots as he asks how long she's worked for the Humberts, how well she knows Melissa and Lydia, if she noticed anything the week of Melissa's disappearance.

Zircon kinda looks around the kitchen, absorbing the ambience.

GM says, "The housekeeper has worked for the family since shortly after the Humberts were married. Melissa used to be such a good girl, but she's worried about the things she's been getting into lately."

Eben asks, "Oh, really? Any people in particular, or just behaviors?"

Housekeeper says, "She's been spending too much time alone in her room. She hardly talks to anyone anymore. Even her friend Lydia hasn't been around lately."

Eben asks, "The Humberts don't seem the most... attentive parents. Do you think they pushed her away?"

GM says, "She clearly doesn't wish to speak poorly of her employers, but you get the sense that they haven't really had much time or attention for their daughter in recent years."

Eben nods and starts on another carrot.

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Meanwhile, Zircon sneaks one into a top hat he suddenly seems to be wearing."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "(Wait, he's upstairs. Never mind.)"

[Crows-Nest] Zircon says, "*jazz hands*"

Eben asks, "So, no people you've seen her with, or heard her talking to? Just 'holed up in her room'?"

[Crows-Nest] Zircon says, "no I'm down here in the ktichen"

Housekeeper says, "Oh, she's always on that computer of hers, talking to people on the Internet. Those 'forums' and 'chatrooms' and things."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Ah, right, yes."

Eben asks, "Any ones in particular you remember the name of?"

Zircon says, "If you do hear anything else, feel free to give us a call." Zircon makes a Crusaders business card appear in his hand! With a folded-up $20 behind. He leaves it on the counter nearby."

GM says, "She tries to think, and ends up telling you a half-remembered partial name that she's not sure if it's correct or not."

[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "Eye Err See"

[CCrusaders] Zircon says, "slinky? skunky? some stupid name like that"

[CCrusaders] GM asks (of Eben), "Is this a good moment to return to the upstairs crew?"

Wanda asks (of Jacob), "Could you look at this book and see if there's a page that seems to have been thumbed a lot?"

Jacob says, "Might be earth. Ties into this Pagan nonsense." He gestures.

GM says, "Another is a section near the Quaesitores symbols, specifically about something called the 'Medusae'."

Jacob noticeably frowns at that one.

Wanda exclaims, "The Gorgons! Stone!"

GM asks, "And the third is a bit more cryptic, but as best you can tell, it seems like it might be somehow related to abosrbing the powers of the dead?"

GM says, "And then Eben's phone rings."

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "We've got an earth type Pokemon on our hands, kids."

Eben asks (of phone), "Hello?"

[Crows-Nest] Jacob says, "But here"

[Crows-Nest] Zircon says, "we can't handle a Digglet"

Commissioner Webb says, "Hey, Eben. I just got a call on something that might be up you guys' alley. It's at Angie's Arcade on Seventh Ave. I'm sending a squad car over, but if you're free, can you swing by and give them a hand?"

Eben asks, "Sure, I think we're done here. What's the situation?"

Commissioner Webb says, "Some kind of monster attack in progress. There may be people trapped inside."

[CCrusaders] Wanda says, "I wonder if there's a cemetary near where the Humberts live."

Eben asks, "Oh! Geez, OK. Yes. We're on our way. Any details on what kind of monster?"

Eben rounds up the rest of the group as he gets any other details from Webb, and says goodbye to the Humberts.

Webb says, "Nope. The people who called us didn't want to stick around there long enough to find out."

GM says, "Mrs. Humbert is grateful to see you go."

[CCrusaders] GM asks, "Cut to the arcade?"

[CCrusaders] Eben exclaims, "OK by me!"

Wanda exclaims (at Mrs_Humbert), "Goodbye! And thank you for not using the insectisizer, not that it would have hurt me!"

[CCrusaders] Jacob says, "Ok"

GM says, "From the street outside, you can see in through the glass-walled front. Inside, there's a man who's dressed in a sort of yellow and black ninja costume. He's faintly glowing."

[CCrusaders] Wanda asks, "Or gave it to Zircon for safekeeping?"

GM says, "He's the only person you can see from here, but there's more to the arcade in the back, so there might be more going on back there."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "(Does Wanda have pockets?)"

[Crows-Nest] Jacob says, "Dunno, but I expect that Mrs. Humbert barely glanced at us as we left, regardless of who is holding the book"

GM says, "He's not really doing much other than standing there as though he's waiting for someone to fight."

Jacob asks, "Is that.. a wasp costume?"

Zircon asks, "How did you beat the toy soldiers?"

Jacob says, "Let's not jump to conclusions. He could just be some cosplayer."

Eben looks to see if the power lines to the arcade seem to be crackling or something.

GM exclaims (at Eben), "They do!"

Wanda mindreads away!

GM asks (of Wanda), "Whose mind?"

GM says (to Wanda), "You sense absolutely nothing."

[CCrusaders] Eben says, "OK, you know how you can make the cameras fall off the wall in Portal by opening a portal behind them? I'd like to try to do the same with the power lines to the arcade."

GM says (to Eben), "As you're thinking about that, it occurs to you that severing the power lines directly could be very unsafe, both to you, anyone else around, and possibly even to anyone who might still be stuck inside the building."

[Crows-Nest] Zircon says, "no minds at all?? crap they are cosplayers"

Eben frowns.

Zircon asks, "Maybe call the police chief and ask him to get the power killed to this area?"

[CCrusaders] Eben asks (of GM), "Do I think that would work better?"

[CCrusaders] GM exclaims, "You can try it!"

Eben calls the commish, and asks him if he can cut the power for the block.

GM says, "He puts you on hold for a few minutes, then comes back."

Eben in the meantime opens a blue portal on a nearby wall for a hasty exit, and heads over to the shop.

Commish says, "They said they've been trying to do just that for the last twenty minutes. They picked up the power surge themselves, and nothing they've tried to stop it has worked."

Eben says, "Thanks! We'll see what we can do on this end, then."

GM says (to Eben), "Looking through the glass, you can see more shapes moving around in the back of the arcade."

GM asks, "It looks like those shapes might even be periodically shooting something?"

Wanda uses her powers to sense if these are people or mindless electronic characters

GM asks (of Wanda), "How many zones away do your powers reach?"

GM says, "Now that you're inside, you can see clearly to the rear of the arcade. Back there, the shapes you noticed before are recognizable as blocky, faintly-glowing spaceships patrolling back and forth above the ball pit."

GM says, "And although your powers don't detect any thoughts from those things, you *do* detect thoughts from inside the ball pit, underneath the plastic balls."

GM says, "Thoughts like 'We're going to die' and 'Can anyone save us?' and the like."
