[7thsea] Bert says, "Log on."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And that's everyone!"
Talbert says, "I seem to have the world's most melancholy badge in my possession"
GM exclaims, "So! A brief recap!"
GM says, "After dealing with some Forte Squad groups gathered on the beach to intercept the smugglers, you then made your way to the lighthouse, where Lord Forte himself and his personal squad had captured the Brasa family of lighthouse keepers and turned off the lighthouse light. Johann managed to toss Lord Forte off the cliff, and some of you fought the remaining squad while Floriana (who many of you had thought was Felipe) set herself on fire to be the light of the lighthouse while Talbert ventured beyond a portal to retrieve the light, and Penelope snuck into the basement to retrieve an ancient key. The light restored, Floriana fell into Talbert's arms, deathly cold, and you dispatched the last of the Forte Squad, and freed the Brasas: Anton and Marie (the parents), Felipe and Floriana (twins), and Estela, a 12-year-old girl."
GM says, "The immediate danger is past, but the smuggling ship itself is caught on the rocks, and in imminent danger of breaking apart."
GM says, "The ship looks something like https://www.gutenberg.org/files/17563/17563-h/images/frontis.jpg"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "(back)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Nice pic"
GM says, "(A brief history of what the ship was doing: when the lighthouse went out, they threw out the anchor to try to keep themselves from hitting the rocks. This almost worked, but the storm was so strong that it dragged them towards the shore anyway, and they hit the rocks just as the lighthouse (aka Floriana) turned back on. Nobody was thrown overboard at the time, but they're struggling to get to safety somehow.)"
[7thsea] GM asks, "Any other questions before we begin?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Hmm, transcript 7 doesn't seem to be online."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "It was censored, clearly"
[7thsea] GM says, "Oh, everyone's drama dice refresh; if you had extra you still have extra, but you have at least your lowest trait in drama dice (1 or 2), plus another to give to someone else."
[7thsea] GM says, "And Talbert, if you had 2 last time, you now have 3 with the bump in Strength (so if you had a bonus, it doesn't get swallowed up by the Str bump)."
[7thsea] GM says (to DonM), "That slacker."
[7thsea] DonMiguel puts it up at losvagos-07.html
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Thanks!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I used up all my drama die last session so I should have 2 this session"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "(Having no more drama dice was why Floriana had to save me)"
[7thsea] GM asks, "DonMiguel is also injured, but I don't think the rest of you are?"
[7thsea] GM says, "(Except maybe Johann)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Yeah, I have three dramatic wounds and am in need of medical attention."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I have a dramatic wound, but it's not physical, so I wasn't sure how we would be healing that"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "It seems like I have one dramatic wound but I don't know where it came from"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "hmm"
[7thsea] GM asks (of Penelope), "Was that from the verbal sparring during your date?"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Yup"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I mean, the epic love making could have cured it.."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "lol"
[7thsea] GM says, "Ha! Yeah, I think we'll translate that into 'you owe Tristand a favor', since you are no longer on opposite sides, as it were."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I think I may have forgotten to remove the dramatic wound from being mauled by rats"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Sounds good"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "If there's no other questions, we'll start!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "because I did get a doctor to look at that"
[7thsea] GM says (to Talbert), "That makes sense."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Alright :)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "So, we're all in the lighthouse; I'm not sure what we can do about the ship's present difficulties beyond not turning off the lighthouse again."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Where's El Aqua Hombre when you need him"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Oh yeah, did Talbert get any extra background XP based on last session's revelation?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I took that into account, I think"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I had 14 to spend total and I spent it"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yeah, it's been 2 XP/session unless a background comes up, in which case it's 3, right? So everyone got 3 last time."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Cool."
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "So I have one XP left unspent?"
Marie, freed from her bonds, stands up, shakes herself off, and takes charge. "OK, we've got to help that ship. Felipe, go get the harnesses. Don Miguel, you don't look so good; Anton can help patch you up for now. Estela, stoke the fire; we have to warm up Floriana"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I think that brings us to 16XP total. (2XP per session, 7 sessions, +1 from my background, +1 from Talbert's.)"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "We've gotten 16 total, 2 per session and backgrounds came up twice. (I've been keeping track on my sheet to make sure I'm spending the most----yeah, what Don said)"
GM says, "Felipe takes off downstairs."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "So I have 2 XP I didn't know I had! cool"
DonMiguel asks (of Marie), "How can we help the ship from here?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I could take Swimming right now"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "from Athlete"
Marie asks, "Anyone that can help is welcome. We can take the cables to the rocks, but someone should take out the skiff. You look strong (she says, indicating Johann)--can you row?"
Johann_ asks, "Uh, sure?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "uncanny"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I read that 'Uh' in Tale's voice"
Marie says, "Great. The boat should be moored at the base of the cliff. It'll be hard work rowing against the waves, but those sailors need you."
Johann_ says, "Yes, ma'am."
Johann_ heads out.
[7thsea] GM says, "(to be seen again later ;-)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "elegant"
Anton approaches DonMiguel with bandages and ointments. "Sir, if I can see your wounds?"
DonMiguel says (to Anton), "Please. It would be appreciated."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "If he's going to be rolling, can I Assist?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Sure!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(Since I have medical training as well.)"
[7thsea] GM asks, "TN is based on number of wounds? With a Diagnosis first to make it easier?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "I think so -- should I go grab my book, or do you have the mechanics in front of you?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yeah, found it. TN is 5 + 5*wounds, so 20."
[7thsea] GM says, "(for Diagnosis)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "My Diagnosis is 1, and my SUrgery is 2."
[7thsea] GM says, "Have we been doing assists as a straight +5? It's been too long again, sigh."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "That seems likely, yeah."
[7thsea] GM says, "OK, TN 20, with a +5 from the assist:"
[7thsea] Anton rolls 5k3: 8 5 10+8 10+5 7 | 41
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Woo, go Anton!"
inky arrives, looking for booty.
[7thsea] GM says, "You are Super Diagnosed."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "And Diagnose reduces the TN for Surgery?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Right! TN would have been 30; now it's 15!"
DonMiguel points out to Anton where he's injured, making particular note of which injuries look worse than they are and which ones appear to be more serious.
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And he got a free raise from rolling so well, and another +5 from an assist from you!"
[7thsea] GM says, "Oh, and every two raises heals an additional wound."
[7thsea] GM says, "In consulting with him, how many wounds do you want to aim to cure? 15 for one, 25 for two, 35 for three."
[7thsea] GM says, "(he's rolling another 5k3, with a free +10)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Ideally, I'd like to be non-crippled. Which I think means we need to go for at least two wounds. Does my sharing DD work on NPC's?"
[7thsea] GM says, "I think since this is for you, your normal drama dice would apply, and other could contribute their sharing dice."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I don't want to risk failing, so let's go with one raise (two wounds), and I'll spend a DD after the roll if necessary."
Anton asks, "Ah! Yes, I see. Wow, that one's nasty. And did you... deliberately smear your own blood?"
DonMiguel looks at the marks on the floor, then back at Anton. "I... didn't have a pen."
Anton exclaims, "I guess not!"
Anton shakes his head. "I'll want the full story later. But in the meantime, drink this, since I don't have any anaesthetic.
Anton hands DonM some whiskey.
Anton says, "OK, let's see..."
[7thsea] Anton rolls 5k3: 7 8 6 9 5 | 24
DonMiguel splashes a bit on the wound before taking a chug himself.
[7thsea] GM says, "Success! Two wounds healed."
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Total of 34, with the raises? I chose correctly!"
DonMiguel says, "Augh!" He grits his teeth while Anton stitches away. "Thank you."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Woo."
Anton expertly stiches up DonMiguel's wounds, with a minimal of fuss.
Anton nods to Don. "It's an honor, sir. Thank you for defending my home."
Estela exclaims (at Talbert), "The fire's hot! You can bring her over!"
DonMiguel takes a deep breath. "I think that'll hold me together until the next time I get in the way of a blade. Now, how can I help?
Felipe returns with harnesses.
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Are we going to head out on the boat together, or is that a Johann-only side quest to keep him busy while Tale's away?"
[7thsea] GM says, "The latter ;-)"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I got that impression (the latteR)"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Timing"
[7thsea] GM says, "There are cables to the rocks, and you can go down directly with the harnesses."
Felipe looks slightly abashed when giving DonMiguel a harness.
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Being rather non-nautical myself (IRL), I'm not quite sure how these cable/harness things function."
Talbert carries Floriana and heads towards Estela, still half in shock.
Marie says, "OK! The harnesses work like this." [She launches into a brief but clear explanation of how to attach yourself, how to traverse the cable, and how to switch to a tether once you're on the rocks.]"
[7thsea] GM says, "Hmm, I had a picture in one of the previous sessions."
[7thsea] GM says, "Aha! https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/976/mcs/media/images/78935000/jpg/_78935463_78935462.jpg"
Penelope gives Rico and Tristand a nod that means "go help if they need you" and goes to hel[p with Floriana
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Unless there's something else that needs doing"
DonMiguel straps himself in.
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "So this gets us down to the rocks quickly? And what is the end goal of that, given that presumably the ship is trying to stay *away* from said rocks?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "they hit the rocks"
[7thsea] GM says (to Penelope), "I can split the group if you like, but I think you'll be OK in the rescue party if you want. Balance and Climbing will be helpful, but I tried to divvy up the skill checks so it's not all one trait."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Oh! I must have forgotten/missed that they already hit them."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Thanks! Sorry."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "twas the post-credit scene of last session"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yeah, it crashed onto them just as the lighthouse flared to life again."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Sure, either way is fine with me"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Talbert won't join the rescue team before having made sure Floriana is okay"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "if at all"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "That's what I was assuming"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "So the party is split either way"
Marie explains that any particularly injured sailor can, in theory, be hauled back up the cables, but apart from that, you can help get people stabilized and on tethers, and ready to get on the boat.
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks (of Talbert), "You would probably have been focusing on that in parallel with me and Anton getting all doctory?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "yep"
Estela gathers a bunch of down comforters and wraps Floriana in them as she rests by the fire.
Floriana stirs, and sees Talbert.
Floriana asks (of Talbert), "Did... did it work?"
Talbert says (to Floriana), "I made it out with the light. Thanks to you."
Talbert says, "My strength faltered at the very last step..."
Floriana smiles weakly and squeezes Talbert's hand.
Floriana asks, "And the sailors? They're OK?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Whoops, timing; sorry. You can finish up what you were saying."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "My character's voice just trailed off, the ellipsis was cosmetic"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Remind me, would I know about the sailors' state?"
Floriana closes her eyes and whispers, "I knew you would come to me."
[7thsea] Floriana says, "Yeah, you know what everyone knows; there's a lot of activity and bustle about going out to get them and help."
Penelope politely stays off to the side and does not lip read this conversation :D
[7thsea] GM says (to Penelope), "Ha"
Tristand asks (of Penelope), "I suppose I can't talk you into staying here and being safe?"
Penelope says, "I knew what I was getting into when I joined up.."
Penelope says, "Well, I mean. Generally speaking. I was NOT prepared for fire girl."
Tristand says, "Oh, good, that surprised someone else, too. I feel a *little* less behind."
Penelope smiles with amusement.
Talbert whispers (to Floriana) 'You've been a lighthouse for my heart since our paths first crossed.'
Tristand whispers (to Penelope) "Wow, those two are adorable."
Talbert says, "Showing me the right way."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "hehee"
Penelope asks (of Tristand), "Got something to aspire to?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I am blushing IRL, it's so silly :D"
Tristand says, "Aspire! My dear young lady, I'll have you know:"
Tristand sweeps you up in a kiss and spins you around in his arms.
Tristand says, "I am *definitely* already that besotted."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "awww"
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel says, "(Awkward narrative second person pronouns...)"
Penelope giggles.
Floriana whispers, "Never leave me."
Floriana's eyes fly open. "Unless those sailors need you! Are they OK?"
GM says (to DonMiguel), "As Penelope is spun around by Tristand, an ancient key falls out of her hands and clatters to the floor. It looks... oddly familiar."
Talbert says (to Floriana), "I guess there's only one way to know for sure"
[Setting the zoned flag.]
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Does it resemble https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/861973857736196096/906053954452996116/Aldana_Artifact.png ?"
[7thsea] GM says, "It does! It's not the same, but it's definitely reminiscent of it."
DonMiguel asks (of Penelope), "Where did that object come from?"
Penelope says, "I found it in the cellar... I used it to reactivate the pyramid thing. (yes?)"
Floriana shoos you away. "Go on, go help. I'll be OK." She shivers. "Soon. I'm sure. My sister will keep me warm." She smiles at Talbert through soft eyelashes. "As will my memories of us."
[7thsea] GM says, "(yup!)"
Anton says (to DonMiguel), "It's the key that activates the light. It's ancient; some even claim Syrneth in origin."
DonMiguel says, "How strange. I once had an artifact very much like it myself."
DonMiguel says, "Once the present danger is passed, we must have a talk about their respective histories."
Anton says, "Hunh! Well, I guess the Syrneth did leave a lot of stuff behind when they disappeared."
Anton nods.
Talbert nods with a determined smile and gets ready to go out into the chaos. 'Come on then, esteemed friend of learning. The sea waits for no one!'
DonMiguel helps Talbert into his harness as well.
Talbert says, "Merci"
Rico shakes his head at all the romantic nonsense going on, and slips into his own harness.
[Crows-Nest] Penelope tries to make a pun on Ricco's missing "C" and the sea below.
GM exclaims, "And with that, you all prep and head out into the storm!"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Whoops, heh."
[Crows-Nest] Penelope says, "I started it above"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert asks, "Cocorico! Cocoricco?"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert is making fowl jokes
GM says, "So! Anton and Marie head down first, as they're familiar with everything and can go the fastest. Felipe stays in the back to help if need be. Everyone give me a Climbing roll with either Brawn or Finesse, TN 15. Success means you get down normally, a raise means you get down fast, failure means you get down more slowly."
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 6k4: 8 3 8 9 2 5 | 30
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 4k4: 4 3 1 4 | 12
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "Slowly, but without injury?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Correct!"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Fine with me"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Fortunately, we're strapped into our harnesses."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I'll raise to TN 20? for speeeeed"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Go for it!"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 5k4: 9 1 4 3 8 | 24
[7thsea] Talbert says, "yess"
[7thsea] Talbert goes brrrr
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I imagine Don and Talbert racing each other"
GM says, "Anton, Marie, and Talbert arrive at the rocks first! Followed by several others at a more leisurely pace, with Penelope, Felipe, and Tristand in the back. (Ricco trusted Penelope and is in the main group; Tristand is still a bit overly protective.)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "wheeee"
GM says, "At the rocks, you see the ship canted on a rock, a hole in the side taking on water. The waves and rain have made everything incredibly slick."
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel says, "I imagine that while most of us are climbing hand-over-hand, Talbert just used his cable as a zipline."
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "pretty much :D"
[7thsea] GM says, "Mechanically, I'm running things like this: Everyone (including sailors) are one a continuum of Stable - Unsteady - Precarious - Overboard. You all start off at Stable; I'm going to roll for the sailors. We'll roll initiative, and Nature gets its own actions. When you defend against the waves (or whatever) you get a free 'Active Defense' if the attack gets past your passive defense; failure means moving down the stability track or taking a dramatic wound (your choice)."
[7thsea] GM says, "All the NPCs can be used to assist your own actions, or to stabilize a sailor or something. Anton and Marie can permanently stabilize a sailor who was Stable, freeing them from the vaguaries of the wind and waves."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Is Passive Defense based on Climbing?"
[7thsea] GM says, "It'll depend on where you are and whether it's a wave attack or a rain attack or whatever."
[7thsea] DonMiguel nods.
[7thsea] GM says, "So, rolling for the sailors to see how many are stable! There are 10 of them total."
[7thsea] GM rolls 1d10 dice: 7
[7thsea] GM says, "Woo, 7 start off stable."
[7thsea] GM rolls 1d3 dice: 8
[7thsea] GM says, "that's... not a d3."
[7thsea] GM says, "I'll roll an actual die ;-)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Ha. I think that you rolled 1d3 10-siders."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "2 are Unsteady and 1 is Precarious!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And, everyone roll initiative!"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 4d10 dice: 9 6 3 7
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "Remind me what that is? panache d10s?"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k: Arr.
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 4 6 9 | 19
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "I'm acting on 4, 6 and 9"
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 3d10 dice: 6 8 10
[7thsea] GM says (to Penelope), "Correct."
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 3 dice: 6 9 9
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "The Storm goes first on 3!"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 8
TheStorm blows rain into your faces, and flashes of lighting in the sky blind and confuse you! Defend with Wits or Panache, plus any 'keeping your cool' skill you might have. (So, passive defense is trait*5 + skill*5)
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 5k3: 2 10+3 5 3 8 | 26
[7thsea] GM says, "That probably gets past most people's passive defenses."
[Crows-Nest] Talbert asks, "Could I use Resolve instead?"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "that's a 'keeping your cool' sort of thing"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "not that it matters"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I suppose Acting would only be *pretending* to keep your cool, and thus probably wouldn't apply."
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "I have Resolve as a defense against the waves ;-)"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "ah right"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "no worries, Panache is the same number"
[Crows-Nest] Roger says, "kept my cool and said "No, *I* am the storm. Well, okay, *you* are, but, uhhh, I've got two wolves inside of me okay""
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Ha"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 3k3: 9 10+7 7 | 33
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Woo!"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert asks, "Active defense?"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "I mean, is this active defense now since it rolled higher than our passive defenses?"
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Yup! Straight panache or panache + whatever."
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 3 7 7 | 17
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 3k3: 7 9 5 | 21
[7thsea] GM says, "OK, so both of those are lower than 26, which means you can either spend drama dice to make up the difference, or move to 'Unsteady'."
[7thsea] GM says, "(or take a dramatic wound)"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "But DonMiguel perseveres!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I'll move to Unsteady, it's more suspenseful."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Same."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Though.. well, we'll see."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I have an extra die I've been carrying for a while."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I guess I'll use it"
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 1k1: 8 | 8
[7thsea] Talbert says, "yay"
DonMiguel notices the tingling on his skin when the lightning is about to strike and closes his eyes for a moment so he isn't blinded by it.
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Woo! rp resisting or falling sway to the confusion!"
GM says, "The confusion also moves two sailors from Stable to Unsteady, and one from Unsteady to Precarious."
Talbert gets distracted by the arcing lightning. IT'd make such a good sketch!
[7thsea] GM says, "Oh, right, and your speed. If you got here fast, you get a free raise on your first action. Getting here slow means you can either move an action to 10 and go normally, or take your first action at a -5."
[7thsea] Talbert asks (of GM), "but then does that mean I succeeded then?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Which takes us to 4: Talbert!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "ah no, that was a reaction"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "sorry"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "About to RP, but in the future, would that have counted as a "surprise" that I could used Keen Senses with? Like, I can feel the lightning coming."
[7thsea] GM says, "Sure, that makes sense. Now that you know what to expect, you can do that next time."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Neat"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Thinking"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "How to steady a sailor?"
[7thsea] GM says, "There's 2 Precious sailors, 3 Unsteady, 5 Stable."
Penelope closes her eyes just in the nick of time.
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Oh well if they're precious, then I should make sure they don't get lost in the waves"
[7thsea] GM says, "Ha, whoops"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Hehe"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "what sort of acrobatic thing I can do... hmmm... to stop a precarious sailor from falling..."
[7thsea] GM says, "(physically, once you made it to the rocks, everyone unhooks their harness from being attached close to the cable to being tethered to the cable. The tethers are fairly long, and you can shorten/lengthen them as needed.)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "srry for taking so long, I'm trying to figure it out"
[7thsea] GM asks, "You could just climb onto the boat and grab one of them, and help him/her grab the railing?"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "I could do that!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "In fact, since I'm no inspiring orator, it's probably the best thing to try for now"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Great! Pick/justify a skill/trait, TN 15!"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Footwork?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Nah, that's cheating"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "If only one of the sailors were a horse!"
[7thsea] GM says, "If you need me to pick, I'm going to say Climbing/Finesse ;-)"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "OK!"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 4k3: 7 9 5 8 | 24
[7thsea] Talbert says, "oops, that was supposed to be 5k4"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "but it doesn't matter?"
[7thsea] GM says, "sure, roll another die; you might get a free raise."
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 1k1: 6 | 6
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "No free raise, but you succeed! One sailor is moved from Precarious to Unsteady!"
[7thsea] GM says, "(I'm using poker chips in real life to keep track)"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Penelope is next?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "wait no"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "got confused"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Wait, I forgot your free raise!"
[7thsea] GM says, "From being fast."
[7thsea] GM says, "So you can either move two sailors from precarious to Unsteady, or one all the way to Stable."
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "One all the way to Stable!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I don't do things by halves"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "also I am horse guy"
[7thsea] GM says, "Everyone goes on 6, starting with Penelope at a -5, unless she wants to move that action to 10 isntead (from being slow)."
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at Talbert), "Sold!"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Yeah, I was gonna wait and go twice on 10."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Got it. Don!"
[7thsea] GM says, "Sailors are 6/3/1"
[7thsea] GM says, "Talbert and the sailors are on the ship itself; the rest of you are on the rocks."
DonMiguel swings out to the ship and starts climbing up the mast, to free a sailor who's tangled in the rigging.
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Finesse + Climbing?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Perfect! TN 15."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I'd like to take a raise to get him from Precarious to Stable."
[7thsea] GM says, "Sounds good."
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 6k4: 8 4 6 7 7 6 | 28
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Success! rp!"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "Put all the sailors in the stables!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "we are their salv-hay-tion"
DonMiguel reaches the sailor who's hanging upside down with his ankle caught in the ropes and lowers him safely to the deck.
[7thsea] GM says, "Next up is the Storm:"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 5
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "Do you have a list of 10 things the storm can do to wreak havoc?"
TheStorm's waves lift the ship and slam it down on the rocks again, throwing everyone to one side! Everyone on the ship (sailors, Talbert, Don) defend with Balance or Footwork, with Finesse or Brawn:
[7thsea] Talbert says, "10 Things That Storms Can Wreck: The Fifth One Will Shock You (Literally, with Lightning)"
[7thsea] GM says (to Penelope), "A 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, and a 10."
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 5k3: 8 6 5 10+8 4 | 32
[7thsea] GM says, "Wow, ow."
GM exclaims, "Four sailors are thown off-balance, three moving to Unsteady, and one to Precarious!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at Don&Talbert), "Defend vs. 32!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 7k4: 2 8 3 1 3 8 6 | 25
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "I feel Unsteady!"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 7 2 1 | 10
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "Me too!"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "We're rolling an inordinate number of 1's on d10s!"
[7thsea] GM says, "All three of you are now Unsteady! And it's Talbert's turn."
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Can I steady another PC?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Sailors are 4/5/1"
[7thsea] GM says, "You can! Or yourself."
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "I'll steady the Precarious sailor instead with no regards for my own stability!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "woo!"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "It's TN 20 if I want to raise and bring them to the Stables?"
GM exclaims, "The sailor was at the railing, and was hit by a rolling barrel, and is tottering at the edge of the ship!"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yup1"
[7thsea] GM says, "s/1/!."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Time to do a swashbuckling swing on a rope and catch the sailor! Rolling:"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 5k4: 1 9 8 7 1 | 25
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I suceed"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Yay! rp!"
Talbert sees the sailor teetering at the edge, the waves rising! Grabbing on to a loose piece of rigging, Talbert swings around in an arc around the mast and intercepts the sailor, sending him sliding into a stable spot on the deck!
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 3
[7thsea] GM says, "That brings us to 7, when the storm goes again:"
GM says, "A wave crashes over the deck of the ship, and floods the rocks even more! Defend with straight Resolve or Brawn. And sure, Keen Senses."
[7thsea] GM says, "The attack vs. the people on the ship:"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 4k3: 3 10+6 3 9 | 28
[7thsea] GM says, "And vs. the rocks:"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 6k3: 4 3 2 7 6 9 | 22
[7thsea] GM says, "Ha, well."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Straight Resolve or Brawn, with no skills? (Not even Swimming?)"
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 3k2: 7 7 5 | 14
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 4 9 9 | 22
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Augh."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I'll spend a drama die"
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at Penelope), "That's exactly enough!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 2k2: 9 6 | 15
[7thsea] GM says, "Wait, wrong one."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Yeah, no :D"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 1k1: 1 | 1
[7thsea] Talbert says, "hahahaha"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "23 does not succeed I guess"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "unless I spend my second drama die"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "or someone gifts me one"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "You can have my sharable one. Trying to decide if I want to use my refreshed one for myself."
[7thsea] GM says (to Penelope), "You'd need 8, which is kind of a lot for a single die."
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "thanks Penelope!"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 1k1: 9 | 9
[7thsea] Penelope says, "It is, yeah, good point."
DonMiguel, already partially caught in the ropes, goes sliding across the deck! He topples over the rail, but fortunately is able to hold onto the rope, so he's now dangling Precariously over the edge.
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I'll go unsteady"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "I succeed thanks to Penelope's die!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "which rolled a 9"
Penelope sees the wave coming, but is still unable to get to higher ground in time.
[7thsea] GM asks (of Penelope), "I had you at unstead earlier?"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I used my die!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Oh, right!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Talbert's total is 32"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "thanks to the drama die"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "so I remain Unsteady"
[7thsea] GM says, "The sailors get super lucky, and all of them manage to maintain their current positions. Still 5/5/0."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Which brings us to 8: Penelope!"
[7thsea] GM says, "(and friends, if need be. Otherwise they'll go automatically at the end of the round)"
Penelope will attempt to help a sailor, just pick one and tell me what he's up to.
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Ideally whoever is closest and/or in most need of help"
GM says (to Penelope), "There's one sailor that is close enough to the edge of the ship and stable enough that you could help them down to where Anton could stabilize him, and there's a second sailor trying to make his way unsteadily across the ship to the edge nearer you all."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Ok, I'll help the first one, since my skillset makes me wary of getting on the boat, I think"
[7thsea] GM says, "Go for it! Pick an appropriate skill/trait, TN 15."
[7thsea] GM says, "(raise to help two of them.)"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I'm thinking finesse, definitely, and... I guess balance, since I imagine the rocks are slippery when wet and covered in seaweed or whatever, and I have to help a second person back with me. Sound oK/"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Perfect!"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I'll raise, since that's a 5k4 and I feel ok about it."
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 5k4: 1 2 9 8 10+2 | 31
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Hee"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Yay! You manage to get two of them to safety; rp!"
Penelope picks her way across the rocks to the ship. She helps the first sailor out of the ship, and then leans over the edge just enough to reach out to the other and help him towards the edge and out, then leads both (helping the unsteady one as much as he needs) to safety.
[Crows-Nest] Penelope says, "I think my dog is having a bad dream."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "That brings us to phase 9: Don -> Storm -> Don -> Talbert (in that order) Don first! He's Precarious!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "I'd like to Stabilize myself! Assuming I can use Finesse + Climbing to get back up on deck, what's the TN to get from Precarious to Stable?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Sailors are 3/5/0"
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel says, "Perhaps she's dreaming that she's in a storm."
[7thsea] GM says, "TN 20 for a double move."
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 6k4: 9 5 10+2 8 2 9 | 38
[7thsea] GM says, "You are now stable again! rp."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "What was the threshold for a bonus raise?"
[7thsea] GM says, "20."
[7thsea] GM says, "So, close! You could help a sailor or a PC for a drama dice, probably."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I'll save them for my next turn."
[7thsea] GM says, "Sounds good."
[7thsea] GM says, "And save them *on* your next turn ;-)"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "rp!"
DonMiguel runs up the side of the ship, pulling himself along with the rope! He leaps over the railing and sticks the landing perfectly, ready to help whoever else is on deck!
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 6
[7thsea] GM says, "Once again, the ship is lifted and slammed back onto the rocks! Defend with Balance or Footwork with Fineese or Brawn:"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 5k3: 6 10+8 10+4 2 8 | 40
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "That's just anyone on the ship again this time, right?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at Penelope), "Right!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Hmm."
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 7k4: 3 5 2 10+4 8 10+9 4 | 46
[7thsea] Talbert says, "nice"
GM says, "Five sailors are thrown to the side, destabilizing many of them! They're now 1/4/3."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "It's probably not worth multiple DD's to avoid being Unsteady, assuming I can still help other people while being Unsteady myself?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at Talbert), "Woo-hoo!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 7k4: 8 4 5 9 2 4 6 | 28
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at DonMiguel), "You can!"
[7thsea] GM says, "That makes all of you Unsteady, correct? Two because you were already there, and Don just joined you."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Ja"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Oh wait, I'm Italian"
DonMiguel is running toward one of the sailors to help when the ship heaves under his feet! He topples over and lands hard on the deck, barely managing to get himself back into a half-sitting position.
[7thsea] GM says, "Ha."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Uh.. Si"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Yup."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Don's turn!"
[7thsea] GM says, "(then Talbert, then Penelope twice on 10)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "I'd like to help Anton and Marie get people from Stable to Permanently Stable!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "No, wait, there's only one Stable."
[7thsea] GM says, "There is exactly one sailor who is currently... right, that."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "With raises, can I get one or more from Unsteady to PermaStable?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(This involves cables and harnesses, right? Finesse + Knotwork?)"
[7thsea] GM says, "(Anton and Marie go at the end of the round and will permanently stabilize people who are Stable, or help move them there if there aren't enough.)"
[7thsea] GM says, "(as do the other NPCs if not used elsewhere.)"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Sure!"
[7thsea] GM says, "TN 20."
[7thsea] GM says, "(for a double move)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "And 30 to get two of the Unsteadies PermaStable?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yeah: TN 15 to move one person one 'slot', then 5 for every extra movement you want."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "So, yes?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yes."
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Then I'm spending a DD to attempt that!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 6k5: 9 10+8 9 8 3 10+6 | 60
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Wow!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "That's your core 4 plus an extra 1!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "That looks like I get five shifts total! Two from Unsteady to PermaStable, plus an extra one from Unsteady to Stable!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "That brings them to 2/1/3: rp!"
DonMiguel lands in a pile of sailors who were also tossed by the same wave. Conveniently, the harnesses and cables are just nearby, so he's able to start getting them hitched up and ready to return to solid land!
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "That brings us to phase 10, when Penelope goes twice!"
[7thsea] GM says, "(PCs are all Unsteady; sailors are 2/1/3)"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I'm gonna try to do what I did before to reach whoever is reachable, and I'd like to raise to bring myself back up to stable"
[7thsea] GM says, "Perfect. That's a TN 20, then."
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 5k4: 4 4 6 1 2 | 16
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Augh."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Fine, I'll use my refreshed die"
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 1k1: 6 | 6
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "w00t!"
[7thsea] GM says, "Success! rp; sailors afterwards are now 1/1/3, and you're Stable."
Penelope takes a moment to lace her boots up more tightly, which helps on the rocks, and she goes in to pull another nearby sailor out of the ship and to safety.
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And then go again!"
Penelope goes back for that other stable sailor.
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 5k4: 3 10+8 6 1 3 | 30
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Oh come on"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "The time I don't raise"
[7thsea] GM says, "Ha."
[7thsea] GM says, "Well, you play it cautiously, and succeed."
Penelope and repeat.
[7thsea] Penelope isn't feeling wordy this time.
[7thsea] GM says, "We're at the end of the round, and we're 0/1/3. Anton helps one sailor at the railing, Marie swarms up the side of the ship and rescues a sailor who was about to fall overboard, Tristand stays on the rocks with Penelope, and Ricco climbs up onto the ship, where he can assist there next round."
[7thsea] GM says, "And that moves the sailors to 1/1/2, and the PCs at Peneleope Stable, Don and Talbert at Unsteady."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Roll initiative again! And the storm worsens!"
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 3d10 dice: 5 6 1
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 3 dice: 9 8 10
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 5d10 dice: 2 4 1 8 1
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3d10 dice: 3 1 5
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I predict that I'll be going Overboard this round."
[7thsea] GM says, "Good time for Swimming ;-)"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "Don M seems to be the most accident prone character despite being sensible and measured!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "By 'sensible and measured', do you mean 'Overconfident'?"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "haha"
[7thsea] GM says, "Phase 1! Storm -> Storm -> Penelope -> Talbert"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 5
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "That's another wave that slams the ship!"
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "The storm splits into two tornados which each attack Penelope and Talbert"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 5k3: 4 8 2 7 3 | 19
[7thsea] GM says, "Hey, that's the storm's lowest roll yet."
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "this is only a friendly wave! bOOOSH"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Which trait was this to defend?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Balance/Footwork + Finesse/Brawn"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 7k4: 7 6 8 8 7 10+2 2 | 35
[7thsea] GM says, "Which you may even succeed at passively."
[Crows-Nest] Talbert says, "easy peasy"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 7k4: 1 2 7 4 9 5 3 | 25
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Yay!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Oh yeah, I did succeed passively with Footwork!"
GM exclaims, "You all are ready for this at this point, and are steady on your feet. But a sailor is washed overboard!"
GM exclaims, "And the storm goes again!"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 7
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Flashes of lighting and sheets of rain confuse and befuddle you!"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Panache or punishment?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Wits or Panache to defend, plus Keen senses or some other skill if you can justify it:"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 5k3: 3 5 10+6 7 1 | 28
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 3k3: 10+1 2 6 | 19
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 9 9 7 | 25
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 4k3: 2 5 8 2 | 15
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "I'll spend my last drama die!"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 1k1: 9 | 9
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Dang"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I remain Unsteady! And have no more drama dice"
DonMiguel gets disoriented by the lightning! He stumbles into the railing and almost goes over!
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And Don moves to Precarious, and Penelope to Unsteady!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel is now Precarious.
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And it's Penelope's turn!"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Hm. Thinking."
[7thsea] GM says, "Sailors are now 1/1/1/1 (with one overboard)"
Penelope makes her way back to the ship, being extra careful with her footing to avoid injuring her ankle any further... (raising once to hopefully restablize myself again)
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 5k4: 6 9 8 7 5 | 30
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Whew."
[7thsea] GM asks, "Nice! Permastablized one of the sailors?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "It occurs to me that we don't know what happens if a sailor who's Overboard moves down one step. We might not want to find out."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Yeah, but I don't know that I can storywise do much to help an overboard sailor.. and I was going for the stable one, yeah, plus getting myself back to stable."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Perfect. rp, and it's Talbert's turn!"
[7thsea] GM says, "(sailors are 0/1/1/1"
[7thsea] GM says, ")"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "oho"
Penelope leads another sailor to safety, and once again, tries to adjust her boot in such a way as to help her ankles. She's going to pay for this later...
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I'm imagining that the frist time she went to unstable, she got a sprain or something that she's trying to cope with.. nothing major, it'll heal, just ouch."
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Is Don planning on jumping into the sea?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I'm waiting to see what happens between now and my next turn before maiing any plans."
[7thsea] GM says, "Don doesn't go until 8! (Unless he spends an interrupt action, I suppose)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Because I could grab Swimming from Athlete with my remaining 2XP and jump in. (I did spend a drama die to remain Unsteady though, which would be a shame to waste)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I guess I should just rescue the sailors I can see"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "If you voluntarily move yourself down a step, can you use that to buy a raise?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "You'll get a bonus if you dive in based on your current stability!"
[7thsea] GM says, "So, yes."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "'When you use an Interrupt Action to make an Active Defense, it costs you one less Action Die than normal.' doesn't help me here I guess"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "it'd help Don but he doesn't have that advantage"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yeah, it's already your turn anyway."
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "I dive into the sea!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "And spend those 2 XP"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Woo!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Since you're Unsteady, is that two free raises?"
[7thsea] GM says, "(After this action is 2) Storm, 3) Talbert 4) Storm 5) Pen/Talbert 6) Pen 8) Storm/Don"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "It is!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "yay"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "I'll be rolling 3k2, what's the TN?"
[7thsea] GM says, "So, Swimming, TN 20 to get to the sailor and keep him from drowning! With your free +10."
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k2: 3 8 1 | 11
[7thsea] Talbert says, "that's just enough"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "w00t! rp!"
Talbert sees the sailor struggling in the roiling sea: 'Tenez bon!' He swings on the rigging in a wider arc, deliberately aiming it off the deck, and allows himself to dive off into water! With the warmth of Floriana's fiery kiss still keeping out the influence of the cold and hateful sea, he finds his way to the drowning sailor and helps him keep his head from going under
[7thsea] Talbert says, "And that ends my turn"
[7thsea] GM says, "yay"
GM tosses a drama die to Talbert.
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Yay."
GM exclaims, "And the storm goes again on 2!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Also there's a lightning strike in the background for that Dark Knight Returns cover :D"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 8
[7thsea] GM says, "Another set of disorientation! Defend with Wits/Panache. 5k3 for everyone not overboard, and 6k3 for Talbert:"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 5k3: 1 9 2 7 8 | 24
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 6k3: 8 5 4 10+10+1 8 3 | 37
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 3k3: 2 10+1 4 | 17
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Hmm. 7 is a lot to ask from a Drama Die."
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "I guess I'm going for a swim!"
[7thsea] GM says, "You could also tag an NPC for 5."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Oh? Hmm."
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 4k3: 10+9 10+7 2 8 | 44
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Oh, wait!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel waits.
[7thsea] GM asks (of DonMiguel), "A drama die to get swept overboard with a sailor at the same time?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "OK!"
[7thsea] Talbert hums 'My Jolly Sailor Bold'
Penelope closes her eyes and weathers out the, uh.. weather.
[7thsea] Talbert says, "this episode brought to you by Weather's Originals"
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at DonM), "You and a sailor go overboard! rp!"
[Crows-Nest] GM says (to Penelope), "Ha"
DonMiguel turns his head away from the blinding lightning, but by averting his eyes, he's unable to see the burly sailor staggering toward him. He was already teetering on the railing, and the force of the collision is too much: they both tumble over the side together!
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "That leaves the deck free of everyone but Ricco and a single (Unsteady) sailor."
[7thsea] GM says, "(except here0"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "How many sailors are Overboard?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Talbert! You're on 3!"
[7thsea] GM says (to Don), "2! One near you, one being assisted by Talbert."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I forgot to defend against the storm"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 10+7 3 8 | 28
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I'd have to roll a 9 or 10 on a drama die to make it"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(AFK a moment.)"
GM says (to Talbert), "You think "I've got to get around the ship and make it back to the cables," but strike out the wrong way! (Assuming no drama dice.)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "you assume correctly"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "the drama intensifies!"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Does this increase my TN for my action?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And it's your turn! Keep swimming the wrong way with Swimming (you'll make it to *some* rocks), or take restock of your situation with Wits!"
[7thsea] GM says, "(plus, I dunno, orienteering or something if you can justify the skill)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I'll keep swimming"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k2: 6 6 7 | 13
[7thsea] GM says, "You tread water, but make no progress."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Alas"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(Back.)"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And on 4, the storm goes again!"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 5
TheStorm hands a drama die to everyone, and tips the die over to a 10.
GM exclaims, "Lightning strikcs the ship mast, which explodes, throwing wood and splinters everywhere!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims (at TheStorm), "That is both gracious and confusing of you!"
Penelope swears.
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 8k4: 3 8 3 4 10+9 4 6 9 | 42
[7thsea] Ricco rolls 6k3: 10+7 7 5 5 9 5 | 33
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Does this affect people in the water, or just people on the ship?"
GM says, "Ricco steps in front of the sailor and both are blasted to the edge! Ricco, bleeding, ends up hanging on to the sailor by his hand, as he slides towards the water."
[7thsea] GM says, "Fortunately, nobody on the rocks or actually in the water were affected."
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Phew."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "And it's Penelope's turn on 5!"
Penelope eek!
[7thsea] GM says, "(I'm picturing Ricco hanging over the railing, dangling the sailor.)"
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel wonders if anyone else here has completed Shovel Knight.
[Crows-Nest] GM exclaims, "Not I!"
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel exclaims, "Then you're probably thinking about the same thing that I am!"
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel says, "Er, *not*."
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "Trying to figure out how I can be most useufl to try to go rescue one or both of them, with Tristand's assist, perhaps?"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "What kind of target would that be? (with a raise to get both to some semblance of safety)"
[7thsea] GM says, "Yup, that's great. Tristand's assist would give you a +5; TN 20 to get one of them, 25 for both."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Ok."
Tristand says, "Merde! I should have been up there with them! I could have helped; I could have..."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I guess I don't have much more than my same old finesse+balance roll, but at least I do have that new drama die..."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Going for the 25..."
[7thsea] GM says, "You can add it in before the roll if you want; you get a slight boost doing it that way."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Will do!"
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 6k5: 10+2 5 8 2 4 5 | 34
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Phew."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Yay! RP!"
Penelope screams, "Ricco!" as she runs as quickly as she dares towards the ship. Tristand chases after her pretty much on auto-pilot, following where she puts her feet, and using what I presume is his brawny self to help her pull first the sailor and then Ricco onto the rocks.
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Excellent. Talbert!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "alrighty"
[7thsea] GM says, "Actually: give me a Perception check, TN 20."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "is that just straight wits"
[7thsea] GM says, "It is! Bonus for Keen Senses if you had that."
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 2k2: 2 6 | 8
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "You see waves!"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "Should I spend two drama die?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Nah."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "ok"
[7thsea] GM says, "OK: swimming to get to some rocks; wits to reorient yourself. Or something else creative if you have a different idea."
[7thsea] GM says, "(Swimming TN is 20 to get the sailor there with you; wits tn is 150"
[7thsea] GM says, "er, 15)"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k2: 10+6 5 1 | 21
[7thsea] Talbert says, "That's for the swimming"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 2k2: 1 1 | 2
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Now that Johann isn't in the scene, Talbert became the group doofus"
GM says, "You make it to a flatish rock in the middle of the ocean, and gasp for a second as the two of you catch your breath. You look around for the cables, and... nothing. Then the lighthouse beacon sweeps over you, and you realize you're nowhere close to the wreck any more."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "rp more if you want, then 6: Penelope!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "all good for me"
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel asks, "Where are Anton and Marie at this point?"
[7thsea] GM says (to DonM), "They're still on the rocks next to the wreck, helping secure sailors. They'll probably head back up with a sailor or two soon."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "What's everyone's status? (also one second, brb)"
[7thsea] GM says, "Everyone's status is that you're Stable, Ricco and the sailor are Unsteady (but Ricco will be fine), and there are two sailors and two PCs in the ocean."
[7thsea] GM says, "I think you can see Don and the sailor near him; you have no idea where Talbert is."
[7thsea] GM says, "Ricco tells you the deck is clear."
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel asks, "While Penelope is BRB'ing, if I tried to do swimming-related stuff on my turn, would Finesse be applicable?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Sure!"
[Crows-Nest] DonMiguel says, "(Sorry, I keep mischannelling.)"
[7thsea] GM says, "So: TN 15 to catch the other sailor; TN 25 for the two raises necessary to get you both to the rocks on the lighthouse side of the ship."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Also, that magical DD that appeared earlier: does that mean that we each have an extra drama die that's guaranteed to roll a 10?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Sadly, it's just a normal drama die ;-)"
[7thsea] GM says, "(the 10 was just for the 'what happens' list.)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Ha."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "A drama die that's guaranteed to roll a 10 is just a raise ;)"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I don't know that I can roll well enough to help anyone in the water, since the only thing I can think of is trying with brawn to pull a PC by their tether..."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Which leaves sailors in the water still."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "But I suppose I can get Mx. Unsteady back to stable somehow."
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "Slightly distracted here. Anyone have a better idea?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Oh, duh, the tethers. Let's say that in order to have enough slack to get to the sailors, both Talbert and Don had to untether themselves."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Dang"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Try singing"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "to guide people"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "They've ALREADY crashed into the rocks."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "or steady their nerves so that they steady themselves"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Like a siren, luring us toward the rocks, but for good?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Ha!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "I was more thinking in a raising morale sense"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Some sort of oration, "You can do it, guys!""
[7thsea] Talbert says, "ad-oration"
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "And there's nothing we can throw into the water?"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "There's gotta be some rope I can cut off the boat or something"
[7thsea] GM says, "Sure! And splintered wood from the ship."
[7thsea] GM says, "We'll say there's tattered rigging hanging off the edge of the ship near you from when the mast exploded."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Ok. what would you like me to roll for this? I want to get some rope, make sure it is or still is secured to something, and toss it towards someone in the water."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "All without falling in"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "And presumably Tristand can help in some way."
[7thsea] GM asks, "Sure! That sounds like Finesse, maybe with Knotwork or, I dunno, Improvised Weapon?"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I imagine Ricco is helping that other sailor now that they're on the rocks."
[7thsea] GM says, "That works."
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Ok, so finesse :D"
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 4k4: 6 6 4 2 | 18
[7thsea] Penelope says, "That can't be good"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I didn't wait for a TN"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "It's over 15! Don, it's your turn, and there is now a bit of mast tied to a rope near you, giving you a +5!"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "oh yay"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I'd like to try to move both myself and the sailor with me toward the rocks where Anton and Marie are."
[7thsea] GM says, "TN 25, then! With your +5."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "How far will that get us toward stability?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Hmm, I'm thinking Unsteady."
[7thsea] GM says, "Given the rope and the help."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "So if I took two raises, I could get the sailor Permastable and myself Unsteady?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Sure!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Then I'm spending a drama die to attempt it!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Because I am Confident that I can help him!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 6k5: 7 3 4 9 4 5 | 29
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "And another DD!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 1k1: 3 | 3
[7thsea] DonMiguel sighs.
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "And my last DD!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 1k1: 8 | 8
[7thsea] GM asks, "No, that's enough, right?"
[7thsea] GM says, "TN 25 -> 35, but a free +5 from Penelope's rope."
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Oh, right, my +5!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Yay!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "You succeed! RP!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Also I still have a giftabled DD for those interested"
DonMiguel and the sailor both grab onto the piece of wood. Together, they paddle it over to the rocks, where Miguel helps her up to where Anton and Marie can get her strapped into a harness.
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Oh yeah, so do I."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Which brings us to the storm's turn!"
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 1d10 dice: 1
[7thsea] GM says, "A crashing wave sweeps over the rocks, where everyone is! Talbert, you and the sailor are currently unsteady. Defend with Resolve or Brawn, plus a skill you think could help you hold on while waves sweep over you."
[7thsea] TheStorm rolls 6k3: 1 9 8 6 8 1 | 25
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 3 5 10+3 | 21
[7thsea] Talbert says, "spending a DD"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 1k1: 4 | 4
[7thsea] Talbert says, "perfect"
[Crows-Nest] GM says (to Penelope), "(Looks like we're not ending early; sorry about that.)"
[Crows-Nest] Penelope says, "S'ok"
GM exclaims, "Talbert and his sailor manage to hang on to their rock and avoid being swept back into the sea!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims (at Don&Penelope), "Defend vs. 25!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Same traits/skills?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(Climbing seems reasonable to hold onto a rock?)"
[7thsea] GM asks, "Traits are brawn or Finesse; climbing/balance might help?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Oh, Finesse? Nice."
[7thsea] GM says, "Wait, no, sorry."
[7thsea] GM says, "Brawn/Resolve."
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 4k: Arr.
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 3k2: 8 6 4 | 14
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 4k2: 1 2 4 4 | 8
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Welp"
GM says, "Neither of you are swept off the rocks, but you're now both less stable (Penelope Unsteady, Don Precarious)"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "But now Don goes twice!"
DonMiguel had just made it up onto the slippery rocks, but is suddenly washed back into the sea -- fortunately, he's still next to the piece of mast, which he's now gripping onto.
[7thsea] GM says, "Also, everyone: roll Perception, TN 15"
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "How many sailors are still in what status?"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 3k3: 10+3 6 8 | 27
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 2k2: 5 3 | 8
[7thsea] Penelope asks, "Remind me what perception is? wits?"
[7thsea] GM says, "Wits/keen senses."
[7thsea] Penelope rolls 3k3: 7 2 9 | 18
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Oh right, KS. Anyway, it passes"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Don and Penelope can see Johann coming towards them in the rowboat!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Took him long enough!"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "He's on Eisen time."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks (of GM), "How are the remaining sailors at this point?"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "I definitely need to bounce soon."
[7thsea] GM says, "Ricco helps get the final sailor stabilized, and the Bracas take the more injured sailors back up the cables with them."
[7thsea] GM says, "And yeah: the only loose thread is Talbert stranded on a rock somewhere; everyone else is good."
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "So I'd say you can go!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Then I'll use my action to try to find Talbert!"
[7thsea] Penelope says, "Good luck!"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "thanks for playing!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Indeed!"
DonMiguel calls out, "Talbert! Where are you!" and listens for a response.
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(Perhaps Oratory could apply?)"
[7thsea] GM asks, "Hmm, is there a.. yes! Oratory is great. With, hmm, Panache or Resolve?"
[7thsea] GM says, "TN 20."
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Panache is perfect!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel rolls 5k3: 5 8 9 7 3 | 24
GM exclaims (at Talbert), "You hear a voice calling out over the waves!"
GM exclaims (at Talbert), "Oratory + Panache/Resolve, TN 15 to respond!"
DonMiguel swims out to Talbert with a line and a harness!
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(Whoops, I'll wait for his response.)"
Talbert is grateful and also soaked to the bone. 'Mon ami! I do believe it is too stormy for a swim today! Thank you'
[7thsea] GM says, "(give me a roll to be heard first)"
[7thsea] Talbert asks, "what is that, just Panache?"
[7thsea] Talbert rolls 3k3: 6 10+6 5 | 27
[7thsea] Talbert says, "nice"
GM says, "So! DonMiguel swims out, meeting Johann partway there, and between the two of them, make it to Talbert's Rock, and onboard the two of them."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Talbert's Rock was what it would be known as in years to come"
[7thsea] DonMiguel exclaims, "Woo! Everybody lives!"
[Crows-Nest] Roger says, "booo everybody lives"
GM says, "It's more difficulty then getting back to the ship, and getting the more able-bodied sailors aboard, but in the end, you make it, and Johann's strong rowing (with a little help from the huge waves) pull you back to shore."
Johann_ exclaims, "I apologize for being slow; cursed Montaignians had hidden the boat!"
Johann_ says, "But while I was searching for it, I found this:"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "an underscore!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "hiding at the end of his name"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "such a metatextual find"
Johann_ takes you to the base of the cliff under the lighthouse. Among the rocks at the base of the cliff, he points. It's a severed arm.
Johann_ then points up the cliff, where you see a writhing portal, just as it closes.
GM exclaims, "And with that, we end the session!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Forteeeeee"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "Thank you GM :)"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "You're welcome!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "I guess Johann did give us a hand after all."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "yay"
[7thsea] GM says, "arrr"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "(Also, yay session.)"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Now that everyone is out of immediate danger, next session might be a good time to have a bit of a chat with Floriana et al."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "indeed"
[7thsea] GM says, "Thanks! I think I mentioned that I had the idea to set a game at a lighthouse back when I was on my honeymoon to the Outer Banks, 27 years ago."
[7thsea] DonMiguel asks, "Did it go like you imagined 27 years ago?"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Precisely!"
[7thsea] DonMiguel says, "Ha ha."
[7thsea] Talbert says, "amazing"
[7thsea] GM says, "(the existence of Lighthouse Cables was one thing that totally stuck in my memory)"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "see you next time and goofnight (tis past midnight here)"
[7thsea] Talbert exclaims, "awesome game!"
[7thsea] GM exclaims, "Good night!"
[7thsea] Talbert says, "you too"
Talbert hops into the DeLorean and heads off to the future.
